Finalist guitarist Olli Hirvonen has created his own style of interpretation by passing with ease through different musical styles, from jazz and rock to experimental sounds. The debut album, “Detachment”, was launched in 2014. As an Artist of the Year nominated by the Finlandia Foundation, the guitarist went on an extensive tour in the USA.
Olli Hirvonen has participated in numerous festivals in Europe and the US as a solo artist, or alongside various bands. Some of the most important collaborations are those with artists and bands such as NYC Jazzarmonic, UMO Jazz Orchestra, Fabian Almazan, Donny McCaslin, and Alan Hampton.
After receiving a nomination as the artist of the year ar the Pori Jazz Festival in 2011, Hirvonen won the Montreux Jazz Festival Guitar Competition in 2016.
The most recent album, intitled “New Helsinki”, was realeased earlier this year, alongside musicians Nathan Ellman-Bell, Luke Marantz, Marty Kenney, Adam O’Farrill and Walter Smith III.
